Mybloglog community positioning tactics

2 people have left comments. Leave a coment

Despite the Mybloglog Boycott I still love the idea and the widgets created by mybloglog. Its a great way for bloggers to get to know each other and to promote and FIND new and interesting blogs. Being an active member at mybloglog can help drive traffic to your site over and over again. Similarly, if you view many blogs a day like I do that also happen to have the mybloglog widget on them you are opening yourself to more exposure.

Here are some tips and tricks I have used and seen people using to gain traction and community positioning on mybloglog.com: (more…)

FAT BURGER TRIPLE KING CHALLENGE

Something I use to do with my guys over at PRIMEDIA was the Fat Burger Challange. I really enjoyed doing the food challanges we use to do over their so today we started doing something new over at SEOP. We started a new tradition where we compete in food challanges and the first one up was the famous FAT BURGER TRIPLE KING CHALLANGE.The challenge is simple, basically order a triple king at any fat burger. Make sure you get the 3 patties with bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, relish, pickles, 4 layers of cheese, mayo and mustard, onions and 2 big buns! Here is a photo of the burger.

Interview with Michael Jenson of SOLO SEO

No people have left comments. Leave a coment

I found an old interview I did with Michael Jenson of SOLO SEO a few months back.  It was in a pretty raw format when I got it. This interview was  taking with web hosting in mind so I posted this information over at LP as I thought it would be a good idea.

Michael Jenson has put together some really great mybloglog tools and have developed an interesting system for personal SEO enthusiasts. I strongly recomend checking out SOLO SEO and Michaels tools.

If you are interested in seeing my interview with Michael please check this post out.

301 redirects | why to use them and how do they work | SMS article

No people have left comments. Leave a coment

Something I have been aware of for a very long time is 301 redirects. I know exactly why, how and when to use them but actually doing it is another issue ;-). If you notice my own blog you will see I have a canonical issue and I just have not had the time to ever fix it. Working at an SEO firm I have seen just how common it is to have canonical issues which can really damage your IBL structure.

After the post I did on 404 error page issues (which is another common SEO technique not being used by many professionals), Andrey from SMS thought it would be a good idea for me to follow up with a 301 post. I could not have agreed more!

I did not dive into different 300 codes like 302, 304 etc and having your redirects NOT return a 200 error. I did however detail what a 301 redirect is, why to use it and some of the most common issues why a 301 is needed.

Take a look at SearchMarketingStandard.com

Too many plugins crashed my blog

2 people have left comments. Leave a coment

Recently, I got a little plugin crazy. I love wordpress plugins. It makes working with wordpress so enjoyable. I have to admit that adding plugins to my blog have really affected my traffic and page views considerably.

So I had about 12 plugins installed and working perfectly and out of the blue on thursday of this week my blog was not accessable. I started freaking out and I went through all of the normal checks to make sure all of my content was backed up. It was, thankfully! It took me a while to figure out what had actually happened but I just wanted to do a quick post and let everyone know what had happened and to give a warning about installing to many plugins. Be careful and make sure you back everything up my friends!!!

BTW, sorry about the slow posting. I have taken a new position at a search optimization firm as the director of SEO and I have been vary swamped!
